Things to do and places
to go:
Lloc
Nou D'En Fenollet, Valencia
The village of Lloc Nou D'En Fenollet is about 10 minutes
from Bixquert. There are many fiesta's held in this
small village including fireworks and lots of street
processions with bands, but the main fiesta is held
during the first week of September and goes on for a
whole week. There are childrens programs during the
day and live music throughout the night with street
partying into the early hours (around 5am). Paella cooking
competitions between the residents of the village are
a sight to be seen, and always shared with everyone.
Spectacular firework displays and everyone is involved.
Excellent atmosphere and everyone made very welcome.
Highly recommended if you would like to sample a real
Spanish fiesta.
Xativa, Valencia
The historic Castle and Town of Xativa is just 5 mins
away. This large Spanish town is full of historic buildings
and has an old part with cobbled walk-ways and plenty
of tapas bars and there is also a newer part with exclusive
shops and bars/restaurants. The Castle which overlooks
the town is open to the public and is well worth a visit.
There is a bar and restaurant at the castle too so you
can stop for refreshments. The market is open on Tuesdays
and Fridays and can be found in the old cobbled streets.
Many bargains to be had here.
There is a train station where
you can pick up a train to Valencia to go shopping.
There are regular trains to Valencia, Albacete and Alicante
from here. The high speed connection is currently being
installed and will make for easy access to both Madrid
and Barcelona.
Although there are many fiestas
in the Town of Xativa one of the biggest is the Fallas
in March, where large effigies are burnt in the streets,
The Three Kings on 5th January, where a large carnival
like procession is carried out through the town together
with firework display and in August usually between
the 14th to the 20th there is a large market throughout
the main road of the town together with funfair rides
and grand firework displays. The town of Xativa is vibrant
and totally tradional Spanish with many things here
for all age groups.
